こんにちは, Kyoto!
Yesterday, a group of our Year 10 and Year 12 Japanese students hopped on a Zoom call with students from Higashi Uji Senior High School, the College's partner school in Kyoto.
The call was an excellent opportunity for both groups to practice their language skills, while strengthening the connection between the two schools. Conversations included connecting over shared pop culture and comparing schooling experiences in Australia and Japan.
For our Year 10’s, the session helped them break the ice ahead of our upcoming Japan Study Tour, while our Year 12s were able to catch up with some of the friends they made on their tour in 2024.
These ongoing interactions add meaningful context to our language learning, and encourage our students to continue looking beyond Essendon and engage deeply with the wider world.
Thank you to Higashi Uji Senior High School, and our students look forward to meeting you in person!

Continuing our House celebrations at the College, we recently capped off Term 2 with Nagle Week.
It was great to see students across all year levels getting involved in activities. Events like the Nagle Community Mass, pentathlon challenges and a fundraiser BBQ strengthened house ties and brought joy to the end of term.
In service learning, Nagle House is partnered with West Welcome Wagon (WWW), an organisation supporting newly arrived migrants and refugees by providing essential household items and friendly community connections. We were privileged to welcome Colette from WWW to present and prepare our next group of students for service learning, while our student leaders ran a BBQ raising funds for the organisation.
Thank you to all our students, our Identity team and especially to Nagle House Guardian, Mr Marchesani, for a fantastic week.
Up next—MacKillop Week!

The College is excited to be once again hosting Kick Arts, our annual talent show in collaboration with St Columba's College and Ave Maria College and taking place on Friday 21 August.
Kick Arts is not only a talent show, but also an opportunity to build towards an interest and talent that students may have within the arts. We highly encourage all interested students to register for an audition. No experience necessary—just bring enthusiasm and a willingness to lean in!
The audition form can be accessed below through mySBC, and will be open until Friday the 31st of July.
Our MacKillop House students have been proudly practicing their house motto ‘Caring and Determined’ in their Service Learning with the St Vincent de Paul Society.
From helping prepare ingredients and meals for the Vinnies Soup Van, to sorting donated goods and packing food hampers for individuals and families doing it tough—these students showed what it means to serve with compassion, humility, and heart.
The work that Vinnies does in our community has assisted countless people going through hard times, and we are so grateful to continue our partnership with this amazing organisation. 💙
