Bernie's Spotlight - Terry Davis (1969)

Terry Davis (middle in the above photo) has been a pillar of the St Bernard’s Old Collegians Cricket Club (SBOCCC) for over 55 years. He played 268 games for the club, including 246 for the First XI, a record only recently broken by none other than his son Luke. A dependable, high-scoring batsman, Terry is named in the club’s First XI Team of the Half-Century.

Terry has remained involved with SBOCCC ever since and is into his 42nd year as Treasurer—naturally, he is also a Life Member.

In 2023, Terry was a recipient of a Cricket Victoria Service Award for his 55 years of volunteering and service to local cricket. Presented at the hallowed turf of the MCG, it was a recognition richly deserved.

If you know any old collegians who have been successful lately, let us know at development@sbc.vic.edu.au - we'd love to celebrate them!

SBOCA Bowls Day - Bookings Open!

The SBOCA Bowls Day is back for 2026 and will be held on Sunday 15 March!

Get your team of 3 together or come as a pair or individual, and you'll have the chance to win cash from a huge prize pool! Whether you want to bowl for glory or simply kick back in the autumn sun, this is the day for you. The play will be in 2 Bowls Triples format, with teams of 3.

The event will be held at Aberfeldie Community Bowls Club, and lunch and afternoon tea will be provided with drinks available to purchase.

We invite all from the St Bernard's family - Old Collegians, current students, staff, family members and friends - to participate. Bookings are $50 per person or $150 per team and can be made at this link: https://www.trybooking.com/DHZSV

New in 2026 - Old Boys Nights!

Come along to the first of our Bernies Old Boys Nights!

Coming off a huge 2025, the appetite for coming together seems as strong as ever, so we’ve decided to add some more events to the calendar so we can do just that.

You will soon see four Old Boys Nights and two Lunches on the calendar. It’s a simple formula, we’ll book a venue, you show up! We begin at The Laurel on Thursday March 19, book in for free and bring whoever you wish!

You can register attendance for the first night here: https://www.trybooking.com/DJWNX.

Look forward to seeing Old Collegians of all generations throughout the year!

Scotchmans Hill Tour Wrap-Up

Last Saturday the St Bernard’s Old Collegians Association hosted a new event at the beautiful Scotchmans Hill winery located on the Bellarine Peninsula—a memorable afternoon for all involved. Fifty guests were treated to a private Barrell Hall tour before enjoying a delicious two‑course lunch paired with outstanding wines from the estate, creating the perfect setting for great conversation and plenty of laughter.

Many prominent alumni attended, and we thank Scotchmans Hill Chairman and old boy Peter Reilly for embracing and welcoming his fellow old collegians to the winery. Many thanks to Dan Mogg who helped co-ordinate this event and feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, with many already looking forward to next year's gathering!

Reunions 2026 - New Format!

2026 will see most of our alumni reunions occur on the same night.

Lock in Friday, 27 November, where the College will host all 1 to 50 year reunion cohorts in one big extravaganza in the brand-new Tobin Building cafeteria and the adjoining spectacular Piazza. All from the classes of 2025, 2021, 2016, 2011, 2006, 2001, 1996, 1991, 1986, 1981 & 1976 are invited for one big reunion party! Tours will be available to view our new facilities with complimentary beverages and food supplied.

We had a great turnout for our Golden Years Reunion earlier this year, and we're pleased to announce we will be holding it again in 2026. All old boys from the classes of 1975 and earlier are welcome to attend this fantastic event on Friday, 21 August.

Invites will be sent directly as we approach the event dates.

Flashback Friday

This week we're going back to a huge collective achievement in 2012, where St Bernard's became the first school in ACC history to hold all three carnival trophies at once (Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country).

Submitting a Vale Notice for The Strand

Honouring our esteemed old collegians is deeply important to the College. If you wish to submit Vale notices for inclusion in The Strand magazine, please send them via email to development@sbc.vic.edu.au. Your contributions allow us to respectfully remember and celebrate the remarkable individuals who have been part of our community and have sadly passed away since our last publication.

Vale notices submitted will be acknowledged in the next edition of the Strand in Term 2 of 2026.

We greatly appreciate your support in helping us honour their memories.
