Jambo! ❤️ Staff Sawubona Kenya Immersion

Eight staff members from St Bernard's College have returned from an unforgettable immersion experience in Kenya, where we had the privilege of spending time with our long-standing Edmund Rice partner school, the Ruben Centre in Mukuru.

Since 2008, our College community has proudly supported the Ruben Centre through funds raised by the Marby150, helping provide educational opportunities for students and families in the Mukuru township. Over nearly two decades, this partnership has grown into something truly special, as both schools support and learn from each other.

During our visit, we spent two inspiring days learning alongside students from Early Childhood through to secondary school. From biology and PE classes to music, dance and time with the Centre's differently abled program, every moment was filled with joy, curiosity, connection and countless smiles.

While our communities may look different, we were reminded that the things that matter most are the same: students eager to learn, passionate teachers, families who value education, and communities built on kindness, resilience and hope.

To everyone at the Ruben Centre, asante sana. Thank you for welcoming us like family and for sharing your classrooms, your stories and your hearts. We leave with lifelong memories and an even deeper appreciation for this incredible partnership.

We are also excited to share that Expressions of Interest for the 2027 Kenya Immersion will be opening soon! This life-changing experience gives senior students the opportunity to experience another culture, strengthen our partnership with the Reuben Centre, and return with friendships and perspectives that will stay with them forever.
